----------------- SCIENCE FACTOR SCIENCE NETWORK -------------------- AUGUST 1992 [SFNET] 08.01.92 --------------------------------------------------------------------- A SCIENCE-EDUCATIONAL-PROFESSIONAL-ENGINEERING MESSAGE NETWORK --------------------------------------------------------------------- [SFNET] is a Science/Education/Engineering based network, which was started in July 1991 for the sole purpose of providing high quality advanced educational topic message exchange for personal computer using commond QWK mail packets. (See below for QWK packet information and mail programs) --------------------------------------------------------------------- !! There are NO connect fees for using SFNET !! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Central Hub Science Factor BBS - Bellvue, WA (Seattle) Regional Hub Locations: Panasia BBS - California - Central Western Regional The Event Horizon - Phoenix, AZ - Southwestern Regional Universe City - Sydney Austria - Austrian Regional --------------------------------------------------------------------- SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR: Science Factor BBS - Science/Technology/Education/Engineering DATA Node 1: (206) 562-7083 1200/2400 Baud DATA Node 2: (206) 644-4569 1200-9600 V.32 ATI 9600 DATA Node 3: (206) 747-5329 1200-14.4K BPS USR HST. (ie: don't mix them alphabetically) ========================================================== ---------------- HUB REQUIRMENTS: ---------------- The only extra requirements with being a hub is that: 1) You must carry the SFADMIN conference. 2) You should send your NODE applications to SF BBS via the SFADMIN conference. 3) You must be verified directly with SF BBS (central HUB) to be a HUB system. =========================================================== --------------- CONTENT REQUEST --------------- 1) HELP keep improper use of the system to a minimum. I'm pleased to report that all has been going well with this aspect of [SFNET] but I'd like to have it remain that way. All I ask is that you, as a sysop, please frown upon users that would misuse the system and reduce the quality of the message base. PROFANITY: Not Necessary, just use big words instead ;-) ========================================================== ------------------------------------ OTHER NETWORK CONNECTIONS into SFNET: ------------------------------------ In the event that other systems want to participate in SFNET this should be verified though the respective HUB system to SF BBS. Access can be given via the hub without requiring sub node registrations in that system. (ex: Another net wants to share a conference) The HUB system sponsoring the internetwork connection will be responsible for monitoring it's content. --------------------------- NET SOFTWARE (QWK PACKETS): --------------------------- I have available the following software (for PCBoard systems) QNET - For sending and recieving messages (nodes/hubs). QMAIL - For Hub use (PCBOARD). TNET - For sending and recieving messages (WILDCAT!). TOMCAT- For Hub Use (WILDCAT!). ALSO any QWK package that you are happy with is fine, there are others out there as well. Science Factor recommends QNET & QMAIL from Sparkware for PCBoard and TOMCAT and TNET for Wildcat! systems. ---------------------------------------- SFNET CONFERENCE: [** ALL MUST CARRY **] ---------------------------------------- This is the global network conference and should be carried by all participating nodes so you can follow any additions and changes to conferences and network issues that might come to light. --------------- SOURCE SYSTEMS: --------------- Definition: A source system is one that is considered the ORIGIN of a particular conference and is responsible for it's content and message traffic, The SYSOP is usually responsible for Sourced Conferences. These must be cleared with SF BBS. I am constantly looking for good SOURCE systems that may have a currently operating conference that would fit into this system. You will remain the source system for the conference and will be the OFFICAL SOURCE of the conference. ---------------- CONFERENCE HOST ---------------- Definition: A user in a particular Node or Hub system may want to Host or monitor a conference to answer questions and post information that might be of interest to other users. These must be cleared with SF BBS. =================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------ VERIFICATION/APPLICATION FORM ------------------------------------------------------------------ Name __________________________ Date _________________ BBS NAME ______________________ City, St. _________________ BBS Number(s) 1) _________________ 2) ____________________ Modem ______________ Modem _________________ Total Lines ________ Voice Number __________________ BBS SOFTWARE _____________ Board Focus ___________________ Node or HUB ______________ Modem/Baud __________________________ [check one] DIRECT to Science Factor BBS ______________ CALIFORNIA Regional HUB (Willam Padilla) ______________ AUSTRIAN Regional HUB (Roger Buck) ______________ OTHER_____________________________________________________ OTHER NETWORKS carried __________________________________________ Where did you hear about SFNET __________________________________ Suggestions/comments ____________________________________________ =================================================================== ** CONFERENCES AVAILABLE ** SEE: CONF.LST for COMPLETE list of Current Conferences and descriptions. =================================================================== We *** WANT *** college systems, and welcome any connections with educational or research based systems.
